Frequently Asked Questions
What is StoryMap: Vancouver?
StoryMap: Vancouver is a community-driven map that collects personal stories tied to specific places across the city. Each point on the map represents a lived experience — a memory, moment, or reflection — showing how people experience Vancouver beyond streets and landmarks.
The goal is to create a shared archive of human experience, shaped by the people who live, work, and move through the city.
Who can submit a story?
Anyone.
You don’t need to be a writer, artist, or historian. Just someone with a story connected to a place in Vancouver. Stories can be big or small, joyful or difficult, recent or long past.

All perspectives are welcome.
What kinds of stories are you looking for?
There’s no single “right” kind of story.
Submissions might include:
-
Personal memories tied to a location
-
Moments of change, loss, joy, or discovery
-
Everyday experiences that felt meaningful
-
Reflections on neighbourhoods, movement, or belonging

If a place holds meaning for you, it belongs here.
Do stories need to be tied to an exact location?
Stories should be connected to a specific place or area, but precision isn’t required. An intersection, park, neighbourhood, or general location is enough. The map is meant to reflect how places are experienced, not surveyed.
Can I submit anonymously?
Yes,

You may choose to include your name, use a pseudonym, or remain anonymous. Any identifying information you provide is optional.
Will my story be edited?
Stories may be edited for formatting or length, but the meaning and voice will be preserved. Submissions will not be altered in ways that change intent.

If significant edits are needed, the story may not be published.
How are submissions moderated?
All submissions are reviewed before being added to the map. Stories that are discriminatory, harmful, or unrelated to the project's purpose will not be published.

This moderation process helps keep the space respectful, thoughtful, and safe for contributors and readers.
How long does it take for a story to appear on the map?
Stories are added on a rolling basis. There may be a delay between submission and publication depending on volume and review time.
Can I edit or remove my story later?
Yes, if you'd like your story edited or removed after submission, you can contact the project creator using the contact form on this site.

StoryMap: Vancouver was created by Bronwyn Bailey as a way to explore how place, memory, and human experience interact. The project is ongoing and evolves through community participation.
